A tide stick is used to measure the direction and speed of the tide.
You drop it in the water near a static object (anchored boats, bouys etc). It will float ~80% underwater meaning movement is down to the tide.
You simply watch the amount it has moved and in which direction. Afterwards you retrieve it for next use.
